Jesus! Jesus!

Today for our writing celebration, the first and third graders came to listen to my fifth graders fictional stories. The best part of any celebration in fifth grade is, of course, the food. So when I came walking in with a tray of cookies and only two juice boxes, the kids were a little concerned. "We have to share TWO juice boxes?" one asked. "Wait a minute," said another, "Is this like that Bible story where Jesus makes the bread and fish feed a bunch of people?" What is a public school teacher supposed to say to that?!? I went with, "No. Jesus is working other miracles in our classroom this year." I then sent one student to get the rest of the juice boxes from the office. He returned to shouts of "Jesus! Jesus!" Days like these make me really appreciate eleven-year-olds.
