Looking God-ward

The sermon I heard yesterday is still with me today. It's one of the things I love about my pastor. He talked about how so many people get nostalgic at this time of year; we look inward and backward as we remember family gatherings and traditions. Many of us, though, have a hard time keeping our gaze God-ward. I know I do. And yet, my pastor reminded us, this is the time of year we set aside to remember God's action toward us. He sent his only Son to be born as a baby, knowing He would be crucified to save us. This Christmas, no matter how many people or problems try to distract me, I'm going to keep my attention God-ward.
