A Fishy Tale

Once upon a time, in a land far away, dinosaurs roamed the earth. Some of them are still alive today. Those that are still in existence swim in the Missouri River.

One day, a boy named Christopher took his girlfriend Christin and her brother Tyler to fish for this prehistoric animal known as a paddle fish. Christin and Tyler had never seen such a fish before and weren't quite certain what all the hooplah was about. Once they were on the water, Christopher's dad Keith skillfully trolled their boat along the dam as Chris cast his line into the river and began swinging his pole like a baseball bat. In a few short minutes, Chris snagged what seemed to be a large fish. Tyler's eyes opened wide as Chris's pole bent nearly in half. Christin was certain he caught a whale. In fact, what he had caught was a paddle fish, which Christin was sure had descended from some species of ancient dinosaur. To Chris's dismay, the fish was only 28 inches long from the top of the eye to the v of the tail. He threw it back.

This scenario played over and over, with Chris snagging fish at 35, 37, and even 42 inches - none of which he could keep because of a certain law set forth by the Game, Fish, and Parks department. At last, he caught a 32 incher - small enough to keep, large enough to eat.

PS - Tyler bet his sister Christin that she wouldn't be able to catch such a fish. Next year at this time, he will owe her $5.
